In My Mailbox (14)

Hey guys! This week was great for me! Not only in books, but in other stuff too! On Wednesday I went to Canada Wonderland and stayed there for more that twelve hours, which means I was there after it closed. I don't know how, though. I went with my cousins and my bro and yeah!! I made the Behemoth (I haven't been in Wonderland before) Yesterday, I went to Thousand Islands with my cousins again. Went over that border, saw USA for an hour or so and then went back to Canadian Water! Anyway, here's what I got in my mailbox!

Character Envy: If you could be one character from a book,
who would you choose & why?

There are so many good characters out there so I will have to make my super huge list a bit smaller.

Nora ~ Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
First of all, PATCH!! She's so lucky to have Patch as a boyfriend. She's also that kind of girl that fights back when she needs to.

Belly ~ The Summer Series by Jenny Han
She lives in the beachhouse with two brothers she's known forever and their mom is so sweet to her. She's also developed feelings for one of the brothers. And...It's summer!

Camelia ~ Touch Series by Laurie Faria Stolarz
She get saved by a super sweet guy and then discovers "stuff" about him. She has an aunt that has some "ablities".

Violet ~ The Body Finder Series by Kimberly Derting
She can sense the dead and that just makes her awesome since she can save them sometimes.
Also, she has a person who takes care of her more that anyone.

Kate ~ The Goddess Test by Amiee Carter
Who wouldn't want to be a part of Greek Mythology??!!! I would. Kate has the chance to rule the underworld with Henry.

These are the ones that came to my mind, I'm sure there's a lot more to add to this!

Which characters would you want to be? I would love to know!

Possession - Elana Johnson

Title: Possession
Author: Elana Johnson
Pages: 416
Release Date: June 7th, 2011
Source: Library

Vi knows the Rule: Girls don't walk with boys, and they never even think about kissing them. But no one makes Vi want to break the Rules more than Zenn...and since the Thinkers have chosen him as Vi's future match, how much trouble can one kiss cause? The Thinkers may have brainwashed the rest of the population, but Vi is determined to think for herself.

But the Thinkers are unusually persuasive, and they're set on convincing Vi to become one of them...starting by brainwashing Zenn. Vi can't leave Zenn in the Thinkers' hands, but she's wary of joining the rebellion, especially since that means teaming up with Jag. Jag is egotistical, charismatic, and dangerous--everything Zenn's not. Vi can't quite trust Jag and can't quite resist him, but she also can't give up on Zenn.

This is a game of control or be controlled. And Vi has no choice but to play.

My Thoughts:

I have been wanting to read Possession since it came out in the beginning of June. I'd heard very good reviews about it and I wanted to give it a chance. I'm not disappointed. Possession was a great story that I couldn't let go off until I read the last word from it.

The characters in the book were all so real. It was like they really existed. Vi, herself, was hilarous. Her way to expression was very sarcastic. I really enjoyed having her as a protagonist. Jag and Zenn were both really nice guys, but they both had a little minus which I'm not going to talk about (read the book). There were many "surprizes" in the story. You know, the ones that makes you say out loud: "No freakin' way!!!!" with a funny face. Yeah, many of these.
Elana Johnson's writing was really great and her way of desrcribing the world that Vi lived in was amazing!

There is a sequel planned, it's going to be in the same world that you read about in Possession, but with a different cast of characters.

The Lipstick Laws - Amy Holder

Title: The Lipstick Laws
Author: Amy Holder
Pages: 240
Release Date: April 4th, 2011
Source: Library

At Penford High School, Britney Taylor is the queen bee. She dates whomever she likes, rules over her inner circle of friends like Genghis Khan, and can ruin anyone's life with a snap of perfectly manicured fingers. Just ask the unfortunate few who have crossed her.   For April Bowers, Britney is also the answer to her prayers. April is so unpopular, kids don't even know she exists. But one lunch spent at Britney's table, and April is basking in the glow of popularity.   But Britney's friendship comes with a high price tag. How much is April willing to pay?

My Thoughts:

The Lipstick Laws was a very cute read. I expected it to be a bit different, but I liked it. Ms. Holders turns in the story made it very original and you never knew what could happen next.

April didn't have many friends, so she's surprised when Britney starts noticing her. As she starts to spend more time with her group, she sees that these girls are not her type of friends.
Her friend Haley, who lives in another state, warned her about them, but April didn't care.
The characters in this story were all so real. It was like I was watching this all happen, right in front of my eyes.

My favorite part of the story is the ending. Everything happens so fast and Britney starts to do even crazier stuff.
If you're looking for some drama and real girl fights, you should give this book a shot!

The Girl In The Steel Corset - Kady Cross

Title: The Girl In The Steel Corset
Author: Kady Cross
Pages: 473
Release Date: May 24th, 2011
Source: Bought

In 1897 England, sixteen-year-old Finley Jayne has no one except the thing inside her.
When a young lord tries to take advantage of Finley, she fights back. And wins. But no normal Victorian girl has a darker side that makes her capable of knocking out a full-grown man with one punch.
Only Griffin King sees the magical darkness inside her that says she's special, says she's one of them. The orphaned duke takes her in from the gaslit streets against the wishes of his band of misfits. Emily, who has her own special abilities and an unrequited love for Sam, who is part robot; and Jasper, an American cowboy with a shadowy secret.
Griffin's investigating a criminal called The Machinist, the mastermind behind several recent crimes by automatons. Finley thinks she can help and finally be a part of something, finally fit in.
But The Machinist wants to tear Griff's little company of strays apart, and it isn't long before trust is tested on all sides. At least Finley knows whose side she's on, even if it seems no one believes her.

My Thoughts:

This book has been in my TBR pile in a long time now, so I decided to read it. God, I don't regret it and I never will. It's been a couple of days since I read it, but I'm still in the magic of the book! Kady Cross is an amazing writer! I enjoyed the story so much and Ms. Cross's writing drew me in deeper and deeper in to the story!

I enjoyed reading about all of the characters. The all had that "magic" twist in it and you couldn't get enough of them. Finley was a strong girl. literally. She had the ablity to lift a man. I mean, that's just wow! When I first read about Griffin, I knew that he and Finley would have that little chemistry during the book. Not to talk about Emily and Sam who made the perfect couple in the story! My favorite, though, was "the American"; Jasper. He flirted with every girl in sight. I couldn't help but to adore him even more when I read about him. His comments and replies always fit into the situation and his humor lightens you! Also, the way he made Griff and Sam jelous with Finley and Emily was so cute.

The story's plot is very interesting and I loved how Ms. Cross could come up with something like it. As I understood, they all have abilities that you're going to read about and understand bit more about. Another character in this book that I found interesting was Jack Dandy. Clearly, he cared about Finley more then he should and there was something up between them.

I will be waiting in the bookstore for the second book in the Steampunk Chronicles. I don't even think I can "wait"! If you haven't read this book, that's the first thing you should do, because when you're finished you are going to need more.

Bookshelf Tour: Where do you keep your books at home?
Are they organized?

This is going to sound hilarious, but I don't own a bookshelf. I mean, a real one! The one that the most book bloggers have. I don't! No kidding! Since I recently moved I haven't had time to buy one and there's no room in my room. I really need to buy a couple of shelves since my books and TBR-pile is growing dangerously fast!

I keep my books on a long shelv in my walk-in-closet. Yeah, I know, I know. That's kinda lame, but I've tried to convince my parents to buy me two shelves from Ikea and it's not working. They keep telling me to wait.

We do have a big (huge) bookshelf in our basement, but seriously, I wan't my books in my room. Maybe go over the weekend to Ikea? We'll see.

Since I haven't been blogging that much and I didn't use to buy many books before I started blogging, I don't have that much books. Wait. I'll count them.....22 books on my bookshelf. Did only count the ones that I've read! Yeah, go ahead, laugh as much as you want.
The books on the shelf are very organized and placed in alphabeticall order. I'm very picky with my books. They have to look new after I've read them and maybe read them again!

Where do you keep you books at home? I'd love to know so leave me a comment!

Forgotten - Cat Patrick

Title: Forgotten
Author: Cat Patrick
Pages: 288
Release Date: June 7th, 2011
Source: Bought

Each night when 16 year-old London Lane goes to sleep, her whole world disappears. In the morning, all that's left is a note telling her about a day she can't remember. The whole scenario doesn't exactly make high school or dating that hot guy whose name she can't seem to recall any easier. But when London starts experiencing disturbing visions she can't make sense of, she realizes it's time to learn a little more about the past she keeps forgetting-before it destroys her future.

Part psychological drama, part romance, and part mystery, this thought-provoking novel will inspire readers to consider the what-if's in their own lives and recognize the power they have to control their destinies.

My Thoughts:

I really liked this book! It kept reminding me about how happy everyone who has there memory should be, because there are others who can't remember and that's really sad. I loved Ms. Patrick's writing. It was easy to understand the concept of the story and I didn't have to re-read to understand what she meant.

London seamed like a really nice girl and I liked how she came up with the idea of writing notes each night of what happened during the day. It seamed like a diary that helped her remember stuff. Jamie, London's friend was that kind of girl that you couldn't just ignore. London did right and told her what she needed to know (read the book to know what I'm talking about). Luke was the sweetest person in this book. He loved her and it was that easy to see.

Forgotten is a different story, but it's very beautiful! Give it a chance. You won't regret it!

By the way, check out my giveaway for the chance to win Forgotten and Supernaturally!

Waiting On Wednesday (13)

Hey everyone! Haven't written any reviews so far this week and I have a good reason; I'm going to a summer school for a couple of day. I wanted to be prepared in math for high school. The summer school is soon over and I'm going to return to normal update and reviews!

This week I'm waiting for two books and I'm really excited about them! WoW is hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine!

NEWSOUL
Ana is new. For thousands of years in Range, a million souls have been reincarnated over and over, keeping their memories and experiences from previous lifetimes. When Ana was born, another soul vanished, and no one knows why.

NOSOUL
Even Ana’s own mother thinks she’s a nosoul, an omen of worse things to come, and has kept her away from society. To escape her seclusion and learn whether she’ll be reincarnated, Ana travels to the city of Heart, but its citizens are suspicious and afraid of what her presence means. When dragons and sylph attack the city, is Ana to blame?

HEART
Sam believes Ana’s new soul is good and worthwhile. When he stands up for her, their relationship blooms. But can he love someone who may live only once, and will Ana’s enemies—human and creature alike—let them be together? Ana needs to uncover the mistake that gave her someone else’s life, but will her quest threaten the peace of Heart and destroy the promise of reincarnation for all?
Budding designer Lola Nolan doesn’t believe in fashion . . . she believes in costume. The more expressive the outfit -- more sparkly, more fun, more wild -- the better. But even though Lola’s style is outrageous, she’s a devoted daughter and friend with some big plans for the future. And everything is pretty perfect (right down to her hot rocker boyfriend) until the dreaded Bell twins, Calliope and Cricket, return to the neighborhood.

When Cricket -- a gifted inventor -- steps out from his twin sister’s shadow and back into Lola’s life, she must finally reconcile a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door.
Thoughts:

These books sounds like pure awesomeness and I'm super excited about them. Incarnate sounds like an amazing story and I'm really excited about it! The cover! Hello?!! Anybody?! The cover is so pretty!
Stephanie Perkins, where have you been hiding?! Lola and The Boy Next Door sounds like the book I've been wanting to read since I started reading! I haven't read Anna and The French Kiss but I really need to. The book is sold out wherever I go! Need to buy it when it comes out in paperback! Lola and The Boy Next Door's cover is also very beautiful. The colours reminds me of summer and happiness!

Lola And The Boy Next Door: September 29th, 2011

Book Blogger Appreciation: Which book blogs have inspired you
or made a difference in your blogging experience?

Before I started blogging, I used to read a couple of book blogs every day. They inspired me and I loved how they wrote their reviews.
There are a lot of awesome books out there that I read but these are the ones that I used to read from the very beginning.

  • Anna from Anna Reads: Anna's blog is so pretty! She is hilarious, but I have not met her either. Anna's blog was the first book blog that I started reading and you should read it too!
  • Ginger from GReads: I gaven't met Ginger in real life but she is so sweet when she does her vlogs and not to talk about her amazing meme's (TGIF!!). Her way of writing reviews are so awesome and I get a lot of good recommendations of books through her blog.
  • Liz from Midnight Bloom Reads: Is also one of the first book blogs I started reading and loved it. She's a fellow Canadian and always reminds us about the book events in Toronto!
  • Jen from Makeshift Bookmark: Jen is hilarious and she makes me laugh at least one time in every post. Her blog is awesome.
  •  Claire from YA Bookie Monster: Her reviews are always great and I love her blog! Check it out.

I just noticed that I haven't met my favorite book bloggers! Oh well, I read their awesome blogs and that's what you should do, too!

What do you think?

September 15th, 2011
Ava is welcomed home from the hospital by a doting mother, lively friends, and a crush finally beginning to show interest. There's only one problem: Ava can't remember any of them - and can't shake the eerie feeling that she's not who they say she is.

Ava struggles to break through her amnesiac haze as she goes through the motions of high-school life, but the memories that surface take place in a very different world, where Ava and familiar-faced friends are under constant scrutiny and no one can be trusted. Ava doesn't know what to make of these visions, or of the boy who is at the center of them all, until he reappears in her life and offers answers . . . but only in exchange for her trust.

Thoughts:

This book sounds very different then the other Elizabeth Scott's books.
When I read the synopsis of this book I was very excited and now I'm really looking forward to read it. Unfortunately, I have only read one book by Elizabeth Scott before (Living Dead Girl) and I loved her writing. I should start reading more of her books until As I Wake comes out!

The Iron King - Julie Kagawa

Title: The Iron King
Author: Julie Kagawa
Pages: 363
Pub. Date: Feb. 1st, 2010
Source: Library

Meghan Chase has a secret destiny; one she could never have imagined.
Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan's life, ever since her father disappeared before her eyes when she was six. She has never quite fit in at school or at home.
When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she's known is about to change.
But she could never have guessed the truth - that she is the daughter of a mythical faery king and is a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she'll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil no faery creature dare face; and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart.

My Thoughts:

I imagined The Iron King to be great, since I've heard so many good reviews about it. No, it wasn't great, it was fantastic! This world that Julie Kagawa has created is friggin amazing! The characters, the Nevernever, they're all amazing.

The book started of a bit boring, but got better and better. Meghan's family was poor and couldn't make her a big sweet sixteen party. Her day starts of not that good and you actually feel sorry for her. Then you get to know Robby, who's very sweet, I thought.
During the time when Meghan is gone in Nevernever and I was reading about how she's going to find Ethan, I could relate the story to Alice in Wonderland. Maybe it's just me, but it kind of reminded me of Wonderland! The crazy creatures and Meghan trying to find her brother and get out from Nevernever.

I'm kinda glad that I read this book now, because now the next two books are out and I can't wait to read them.
The last part, Ash and Puck. Yeah, I didn't say which team I was, because I have no clue! They both seems great, but I think I'm leaning more on Puck's side, since Ash is so "icy".

Die For Me - Amy Plum

Title: Die For Me
Author: Amy Plum
Pages: 341
Pub. Date: May 10th, 2011
Source: Bought

In the City of Lights, two star-crossed lovers battle a fate that is destined to tear them apart again and again for eternity.

When Kate Mercier's parents die in a tragic car accident, she leaves her life--and memories--behind to live with her grandparents in Paris. For Kate, the only way to survive her pain is escaping into the world of books and Parisian art. Until she meets Vincent.

Mysterious, charming, and devastatingly handsome, Vincent threatens to melt the ice around Kate's guarded heart with just his smile. As she begins to fall in love with Vincent, Kate discovers that he's a revenant--an undead being whose fate forces him to sacrifice himself over and over again to save the lives of others. Vincent and those like him are bound in a centuries-old war against a group of evil revenants who exist only to murder and betray. Kate soon realizes that if she follows her heart, she may never be safe again.

My Thoughts:

Die For Me is amazing! I loved it and everything related to it. The fact that this story is suppose to be in Paris made me want to read it more than ever! Amy Plum created an amazing world filled with great action and cute guys.

The story starts quickly and goes right into point, which means Vincent. It was very sad that Kate's parents died and she had to move, though. One of my favorite characters in this book was Jules. God, he was so sweet. Ambrose was kind of protective and I loved him too. Kate herself was great. The wasy she thought of Vincent was cute.
I loved reading about how Vincent's and Kate's relationship grew deeper and became more serious.
Kate's sister, Georgia was awesome. Eventhough she could be a bit hard on her little sister.
To make my point clear: I adored this book!

Until I Die is the second book in the series and I'm definitely going to read it!

Blogger Confession: What's the last book you could not finish?
(or had a hard time finishing?)

Usually when I buy or borrow I book and read it, I like it. But, sometimes there are books that I just can't finish. The last book I had a hard time reading was Matched by Ally Condie. I didn't finish it, because it just wasn't my type. I also never finished Revolution, which came out sometime last year. Same thing with this book, it wasn't my type of genre.
Sometimes I have a hard time finishing books when I'm busy and when I'm done with all my busy-ness I pick it up and start reading it, usually finish it.

What do you think? Leave me a comment and I'll make sure to check it out!

Spoiled - Heather Cocks & Jessica Morgan

Title: Spoiled
Author: Heather Cocks & Jessica Morgan
Pages: 268
Pub. Date: June 1st, 2011
Source: Library

16-year-old Molly Dix loves her ordinary life in suburban Indiana, so when her single mother passes away, she is shocked to discover that her biological father is Brick Berlin, world famous movie star and red carpet regular.
Equally intrigued and terrified by her Hollywood lineage, Molly moves to Southern California and plunges head-first into the deep end of Beverly Hills celebrity life. Just as Molly thinks her new life and family couldn't get any stranger, she meets Brooke Berlin, her gorgeous and spoiled half-sister whom welcomes Molly to la-la land with a healthy dose of passive-aggressive "sisterly love."
Set against the backdrop of a sparkling and fashion-filled Los Angeles, this deliciously dysfunctional family soap opera will satisfy every reader looking for their next lifestyles-of-the-rich-and-famous beach read.

My Thoughts:

Spoiled is a funny and cute story. It was so much fun reading about Molly's and Brooke's relationship and how the kept doing these "stuff" to eachother.

I really enjoyed reading about the sisters. The way Brooke always thought and tryed all the stuff that would annoy Molly, while Molly herself tried to be nice to Brooke. The book started pretty good, but in the middle it was kind of slow. Spoiled got better and better towards  the ending. The most interesting and funny character in this story would be Brick Berlin, the girls dad.
Brick was so funny! I laughed at almost everything he said. Molly's friends were also very nice and tried to take care of her.

If you haven't read this book you should. I don't know if there is a sequel, because the ending was too sudden and in the middle of something.

Deadly Little Voices (Touch, #4)
WoW is hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine!

High school junior Camelia thought her powers of psychometry only gave her the ability to sense the future through touch. But now she’s started to hear voices. Mean voices. Berating her, telling her how ugly she is, and that she’d be better off dead. It’s a troubling development that has Camelia terrified for her mental stability, especially since her deranged aunt with a suicidal history just moved into the family house. More torturing, ex-boyfriend Ben, who has similar psychometric abilities, has been spending more time with their classmate Alejandra, even as her own feelings for Adam grow stronger. Still, the bond between Camelia and Ben is palpable.

With the line between right and wrong fraying, Camelia turns to pottery to get a grasp on her emotions. She begins sculpting a beautiful figure skater, only to receive frightening premonitions that someone’s in danger. But who is the victim? And how can Camelia help them when she is on the brink of losing her own sanity?

Thoughts:

How do you defy destiny?
Helen Hamilton has spent her entire sixteen years trying to hide how different she is—no easy task on an island as small and sheltered as Nantucket. And it's getting harder. Nightmares of a desperate desert journey have Helen waking parched, only to find her sheets damaged by dirt and dust. At school she's haunted by hallucinations of three women weeping tears of blood . . . and when Helen first crosses paths with Lucas Delos, she has no way of knowing they're destined to play the leading roles in a tragedy the Fates insist on repeating throughout history.
As Helen unlocks the secrets of her ancestry, she realizes that some myths are more than just legend. But even demigod powers might not be enough to defy the forces that are both drawing her and Lucas together—and trying to tear them apart.

My Thoughts:

Were am I going to start? Maybe my deep love for this book? Let's just take it from the beginning: OMG I loved this book! I'm not overreacting, I promise but this book is friggin amazing and I can't wait for the sequel!

The first couple of chapters surprised me, a lot. I never thought that the book would begin like that. I imagined that Lucas and Helen and they started flirting and then Lucas told Helen about everything. Instead it was totally different and I was so happy. I mean, this story is original. I haven't read anything like this!
Also, keep in mind that it's Greek Mythology. No one can resist that.

I loved how Lucas and Helen's relationship grew and they started spending more time together without all of the fighting. I thought that it was very cool that the both of the Delos families lived together!
Ariadne and Jason were awesome people! They were so smart and nice from the very beginning. Lucas's parents were also great and respected Helen. My favorite character, though, was  Hector. He was like a big brother for everyone and I just loved him!

I don't know if I can wait till Dreamless comes out!

TGIF (11)

TGIF is hosted by Ginger from GReads!

Mr & Mrs: Who are your favorite book couples?
Book couples...Romance is good in books, I think. It gives the story a shine or a glam! The couple can trust eachother and help eachother and that affects the story on a good way. Here's some of my favorites:

Nora & Patch - from Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick. I loved these characters. The way their relationship began is weird but they grow together, you can say.

Belly & Conrad - from The Summer series by Jenny Han. I adore this series. It's my all time favourite series.

Kate & Henry - from The Goddess Test by Aimee Carter. I read The Goddess Test a couple of months ago and I really liked it. Kate and Henry make a good couple.

Helen & Lucas - from Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini. I just finished Starcrossed (review to come) and it was great.

Violet & Jay - from The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting. I loved this book. Vi and Jay have been best friends since they were in diapers and then suddenly everything changes. Can't wait for more about them in The Last Echo.

Azalea & Mr. Bradford - from Entwined by Heather Dixon. Entwined's characters were all so well written but Mr. Bradford were the favorite guy in the book and the ending is so beautiful!
