Waiting On Wednesday (19)

WoW is hosted by Jill from Breaking The Spine!

What if you forgot your identity and had to rely on other people to tell you who you were?

And what if to discover your true self, you first had to unravel a mystery so big and terrifying you were not sure you’d survive solving it?

When Marshall and Elyse wake up in each other’s arms with zero memory of how they got there or who they are, it’s the start of a long journey through their separate pasts and shared future.

Terrified by their amnesia, the two make a pact to work together to find the answers that could jog their missing memories. As they piece together clues, they discover they’re in the idyllic mountain resort town of Summer Falls, where everyone seems mysteriously happy, but as Marshall and Elyse quickly learn, darkness lurks beneath the town’s perfect facade. Not only is the town haunted by sinister ghosts, but none of its living inhabitants retain bad memories of anything—not the death of Marshall’s mom, not the hidden shame in Elyse’s family, not even the day-to-day anguish of high school.

Lonely in this world of happy zombies, Marsh and Elyse fall into an intense relationship...but the secrets they uncover could be the death of this growing love—and the death of everyone, and everything, they love in Summer Falls.

Blood Red Road by Moira Young

Title: Blood Red Road
Author: Moira Young
Release Date: June 7th, 2011
Pages: 459
Source: Library

Saba has spent her whole life in Silverlake, a dried-up wasteland ravaged by constant sandstorms. The Wrecker civilization has long been destroyed, leaving only landfills for Saba and her family to scavenge from. That's fine by her, as long as her beloved twin brother Lugh is around. But when a monster sandstorm arrives, along with four cloaked horsemen, Saba's world is shattered. Lugh is captured, and Saba embarks on an epic quest to get him back.
Suddenly thrown into the lawless, ugly reality of the world outside of desolate Silverlake, Saba is lost without Lugh to guide her. So perhaps the most surprising thing of all is what Saba learns about herself: she's a fierce fighter, an unbeatable survivor, and a cunning opponent. And she has the power to take down a corrupt society from the inside. Teamed up with a handsome daredevil named Jack and a gang of girl revolutionaries called the Free Hawks, Saba stages a showdown that will change the course of her own civilization.
Blood Red Road has a searing pace, a poetically minimal writing style, violent action, and an epic love story. Moira Young is one of the most promising and startling new voices in teen fiction.

My Thoughts:

I have never read a book with a dialect so Blood Red Road was different. But amazing! I can definitely say that Blood Red Road was one of the best books I've read this year. It was original and I was sucked into it from the first page.

Saba was so different from other girls in her age. She could fight ('Kay, you've probably noticed that by know (If you've read the book, I mean!)...) and it was obvious that she loved her brother Lugh more that anything. Ms. Young was so good at describing her and the other characters! The one thing that bothered me with Saba was that she was so mean to her much younger sister! She treated her so badly, but their relationship makes some loops on the way of their journey.

The Freehawk girls were amazing and I loved how they saved Saba and her sister! They were tough and could fight (what's up with me and fighting, noticed?). On her way to Lugh she makes some stops and people stop her. One of the favourite parts is when she meets DeMalo, I mean that dude is...something special, I loved him from the beginning and even more towards the ending. But we shouldn't leave Jack out, he helped Saba the most after all. Jack was adorable. He kept flirting with Saba (even got jealous, in some parts!) and it was amazing how Ms. Young kept building on their relationship!

The ending was different than I expected it to be! I hated the king and the Tonton's. They just kept ruining things!
I really hope there will be another book for the Dustland series (I think it is a series, I hope), because Ms. Young is not done here. She needs to write a second book, or I will....I don't know what I would do but something. Do you know if there will be another book?

Blood Red Road = Read. Read. Read and Read! Amazing story with perfect everythings!

Book Associations:
Which genre, authors, or particular books do you think
people associate with your reading style?

I know that people often knows me as "The Hush Hush-fan" because I'm a really big fan of The Hush Hush series by Becca Fitzpatrick. I read Hush Hush in Sweden, when I lived there and I loved it. Couldn't stop thinking about it. Hush Hush was the first "fallen-angels" book I'd read and I thought that it was amazing.

People and bloggers know that I only read YA books. So, they tell me that when they think of me, they think of authors like Jenny Han, Becca Fitzpatrick, Kimberly Derting, Lauren Oliver, Lauren Kate and many, many more. Let's not get into STEPHANIE MEYER (!!!!!) because that will never end. I'm known as Twilight-Nerd.

WoW is hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine!

Taylor's family might not be the closest-knit – everyone is a little too busy and overscheduled – but for the most part, they get along fine. Then they get news that changes everything: Her father has pancreatic cancer, and it's stage four – meaning that there is basically nothing to be done. Her parents decide that the family will spend his last months together at their old summerhouse in the Pocono Mountains.

Crammed into a place much smaller and more rustic than they are used to, they begin to get to know each other again. And Taylor discovers that the people she thought she had left behind haven't actually gone anywhere. Her former summer best friend is suddenly around, as is her first boyfriend. . . and he's much cuter at seventeen than he was at twelve.

As the summer progresses, the Edwards become more of a family, and closer than they've ever been before. But all of them very aware that they're battling a ticking clock. Sometimes, though, there is just enough time to get a second chance – with family, with friends, and with love.

This book sounds amazing and I'm really excited to read it. I love reading about summer, family and love, it doesn't matter if it's in the winter or summer. Just the feeling is great. Second Chance Summer is released on May 8th, 2012

Divergent by Veronica Roth

Title: Divergent
Author: Veronica Roth
Release Date: May 3rd, 2011
Publisher: HarperCollins
Pages: 496
Source: Library

Beatrice "Tris" Prior has reached the fateful age of sixteen, the stage at which teenagers in Veronica Roth's dystopian Chicago must select which of five factions to join for life. Each faction represents a virtue: Candor, Abnegation, Dauntless, Amity, and Erudite. To the surprise of herself and her selfless Abnegation family, she chooses Dauntless, the path of courage. Her choice exposes her to the demanding, violent initiation rites of this group, but it also threatens to expose a personal secret that could place in mortal danger. Veronica Roth's young adult Divergent trilogy launches with a captivating adventure about love and loyalty playing out under most extreme circumstances.

My Thoughts:

To be honest, I read this book two weeks ago and I still haven't gathered my thoughts about it! And now I'm staring at the screen, trying to figure aout where to start...
I can't say that Divergent was amazing, because it wasn't. It was much more!

Ms. Roth's writing kidnapped me from the first page. I couldn't put the book down and I didn't stop reading. The book followed me almost everywhere. I even read when I was eating (weird, I know!). The characters were amazing, every single one of them! They all had an important part in the story. Tris was definitely a different girl. She came from Abnegation and they called her "Stiff". But I loved how she chose a (totally) different path. She kept fighting and didn't care about the rest. Didn't give up when you thought she would.

This story is kind of sad, when I think about it more and more. After everything that happens, she keeps fighting, because she knows what she wants!
Then comes Four. Four. Four. Four. I LOVED Four. Maybe too much...He didn't take me with surprise. I kind of saw that coming (if you want to know what I'm talking about, read the book!). I actually remembered someone when I read about him! ( =D )

The ending was amazing and I am NOT statisfied!! I want more, now! Oh well, I guess we all need to wait a bit more.

The Reviews We Don't Write:
Have you ever read a book and not wanted to review it? Are some books too personal that we want to keep our thoughts our own?

I review the most of the books I read. I like to share my thoughts and see what others thought about the book. I haven't read many books that I didn't want to write a review for. There are some of them, though, and that is for different reasons.

One of these books were Wither by Lauren DeStefano. I didn't write a review for Wither, because I didn't know where to begin. The writing or maybe the whole plot? I didn't know where to start and end, since it was so good.

Also, I finished Divergent by Veronica Roth a week ago and I'm still stunned. Haven't written a review for it, yet. My thoughts are still out of control. I'm going to try to give it a shot later.

Are there any books you didn't want to review? Leave a comment and I'll make sure to check it out!

Red Riding Hood by Sarah Blakley-Cartwright

Title: Red Riding Hood

Publisher: Poppy
Release Date: March 16th, 2011
Pages: 329
Source: Library

The blacksmith would marry her.
The woodcutter would run away with her.
The werewolf would turn her into one of its own.

Valerie's sister was beautiful, kind, and sweet. Now she is dead. Henry, the handsome son of the blacksmith, tries to console Valerie, but her wild heart beats fast for another: the outcast woodcutter, Peter, who offers Valerie another life far from home.

After her sister's violent death, Valerie's world begins to spiral out of control. For generations, the Wolf has been kept at bay with a monthly sacrifice. But now no one is safe. When an expert Wolf hunter arrives, the villagers learn that the creature lives among them--it could be anyone in town.

It soon becomes clear that Valerie is the only one who can hear the voice of the creature. The Wolf says she must surrender herself before the blood moon wanes...or everyone she loves will die.

Based on a screenplay written by David Leslie Johnson.

My Thoughts:

I first saw a trailer of Red Riding Hood as a movie and I got really excited to watch the movie and read the book. Now, I've read the book, but I haven't watched the movie (going to do that today). Boy!! I loved this dark story.

All of the characters in the story were important. Valerie, the main character, was different from the others and you could see that from the very beginning. She was strong, but didn't know that. Her family had noticed that she was a bit different and that's when her sister Lucie dies and the Wolf is back in town.

The boys in the story....!!!! Peter was the one that was suppose to run away with Valerie but you couldn't help but to love Henry too!

Red Riding Hood was a quick and really interesting read! If you're looking for a new kind of Red Riding Hood this is the perfect story and you should check it out!

Cold Kiss by Amy Garvey
September 20th, 2011

“It seemed so right. Danny was mine, I was his, and that wasn’t going to work if he was dead. So I would make him not dead, not anymore. I didn’t think any further than what it would feel like to kiss him again, to wrap my arms around him and bury my head against his shoulder.
That was my first mistake. It also turned out to be the biggest.”

When her boyfriend, Danny, is killed in a car accident, Wren can’t imagine living without him. Wild with grief, she uses the untamed powers she’s inherited to bring him back. But the Danny who returns is just a shell of the boy she once loved.

Wren has spent four months keeping Danny hidden, while her life slowly unravels around her. Then Gabriel DeMarnes transfers to her school and somehow, inexplicably, he can sense her secret. Wren finds herself drawn to Gabriel, who is so much more alive than the ghost of the boy she loved. But Wren can’t turn her back on Danny or the choice she made for him—and she realizes she must find a way to make things right, even if it means breaking her own heart.

Amy Garvey’s transcendent teen debut is perfect for fans of Shiver and Beautiful Creatures. Wren’s unforgettable voice and story will stay with readers long after the last page is turned.

.

Imaginary Girls by Nova Ren Suma

Title: Imaginary Girls
Author: Nova Ren Suma
Publisher: Penguin Group
Release Date: June 14th, 2011
Pages: 304
Source: Library

Chloe's older sister, Ruby, is the girl everyone looks to and longs for, who can't be captured or caged. When a night with Ruby's friends goes horribly wrong and Chloe discovers the dead body of her classmate London Hayes left floating in the reservoir, Chloe is sent away from town and away from Ruby.
But Ruby will do anything to get her sister back, and when Chloe returns to town two years later, deadly surprises await. As Chloe flirts with the truth that Ruby has hidden deeply away, the fragile line between life and death is redrawn by the complex bonds of sisterhood.
With palpable drama and delicious craft, Nova Ren Suma bursts onto the YA scene with the story that everyone will be talking about.

My Thoughts:

Imaginary Girls was so creepy. I started off reading it and from the first page I was positive that I should be prepared for an ending that I NEVER see coming!

All of the characters in the story are so real. I loved how Nova described them and her writing was amazing! Chloe was the main character. Chloe is sent away after a night with Ruby, her older sister, and her friends. She lives with her dad when Ruby one day steps foot in the house and wants Chloe back.
This is the story of how Chloe is back in town, living with only Chloe and reveals the deepest secrets of her sister. The thing about Ruby is that everyone love her. Everyone wants to be like her, or that's what it seems.

While reading Imaginary Girls I could state that this book is dark and a bit twisted. It has many turns and loops, which I love in a book!
I really wish there was a sequel, because this is story that you won't forget.

The Time Is Here (1)

"The Time Is Here" is a meme that I've created for books that I really need to read/buy/borrow since the sequel or another book by the author is comming out soon. It  does not have any particular time, I just post it when I find out about some more news! :)

The Time Is Here for:

Anna and The French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

Anna is looking forward to her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a great job, a loyal best friend, and a crush on the verge of becoming more. Which is why she is less than thrilled about being shipped off to boarding school in Paris - until she meets Etienne St. Clair: perfect, Parisian (and English and American, which makes for a swoon-worthy accent), and utterly irresistible. The only problem is that he's taken, and Anna might be, too, if anything comes of her almost-relationship back home.

As winter melts into spring, will a year of romantic near - misses end with the French kiss Anna - and readers - have long awaited?

Anna and the French Kiss has been on my TBR pile since forever. Now, it's really the time to read it, since Lola and the Boy Next Door is coming out soon! I haven't heard anything but positive reviews about Anna and the French Kiss so I'm really looking forward to read it!

Taking it Personal: Which books have effected you on a personal level and lingered in your mind long after you closed the pages?
I love these kind of books that stays in your mind. Those who you can't stop thinking about even after reading them. The way the authors manage to write the story is amazing and I love it!
Some novels I've read and loved had that magic to stay with me till this moment.

I remember reading Wither by Lauren DeStefano earlier this year, I was stunned by the story, plot, characters and everything. The writing was amazing and I adored the story. I can definitely say that I still think about it. That world is not easy to forget and it's just twisted-ely good!

Another book that I still think about is Deadly Little Games by Laurie Faria Stolarz. It's a series and for every book that I read from Laurie, I love her writing even more.  Deadly Little Games ended with a big cliff-hanger and the story itself is worth reading a hundred times!

Let's not forget about the last book; If I Stay by Gayle Forman. I can just say that I cried when I finished book one. The writing was so organized and it kept flowing smoothly. I finished If I Stay in a couple of hours and I was just staring at the cover, thinking "Wow, that was...(no words)".

Which books have effected you and lingered in your mind? Leave me a link or comment and I'll make sure to check it out!

Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children - Ransom Riggs

Title: Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children
Author: Ransom Riggs
Release Date: June 7th, 2011
Publisher: Quirk Publishing
Pages: 348
Source: Bought

A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage.
A strange collection of very curious photographs.
It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.
A spine-tingling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows.
My Thoughts:
Before I bought Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children, I'd heard about it in other book blogs that I read. Honestly, I didn't even give it the thought about reading it. Am I glad that I did? Hell yeah!!
Ransom Riggs writing is amazing, it pulls you deeper into this dark and wicked story!

The book starts off with a scene about Jacob, him trying to get fired, doesn't work, though. He calls his Grandpa to check on him, and THAT'S when the story starts and get's better and better.
Jacob had listened to his Grandpa's "stories" ever since he was a little boy. In times when he believed them and sometimes not. I don't think that he would imagine meeting them.
All the characters are great and the best thing about Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children is that it has all those dark and weird photos that helps you imagine everything.

Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children took me with big surprize and the ending was very fast, but a bit confusing (Was it just me?).
I really hope there will be a sequel, I will definitely give it a shot!

Shatter Me by Tehereh Mafi
November 15th, 2011

Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days. The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old-girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

In this electrifying debut, Tahereh Mafi presents a world as riveting as The Hunger Games and a superhero story as thrilling as The X-Men. Full of pulse-pounding romance, intoxicating villainy, and high-stakes choices, Shatter Me is a fresh and original dystopian novel—with a paranormal twist—that will leave readers anxiously awaiting its sequel.

Thoughts:

Forever - Maggie Stiefvater

Title: Forever
Author: Maggie Stievater
Publisher: Scholastic Press
Release Date: July 12th, 2011
Pages: 386
Source: Bought

The thrilling conclusion to #1 bestselling Shiver trilogy from Maggie Stievater.

In Maggie Stiefvater's SHIVER, Grace and Sam found each other. In LINGER, they fought to be together. Now, in FOREVER, the stakes are even higher than before. Wolves are being hunted. Lives are being threatened. And love is harder and harder to hold on to as death comes closing in.

My Thoughts:

I'm so sad that this is the last book in this series! I remember picking up a copy in Sweden. Finishing reading it in less than six hours and wanting more after it! Though, I have to say that Forever had a very beautiful ending that will keep you wondering if everything will go right, or not.

I haven't reviewed any other The Wolves of Mercy Fall book so I'll start from the beginning.
All of the characters in Forever were amazing and had their own little "magic". My favorite was Cole (he has been since Linger). That guy is awesomeness. He and Isabel make a great couple and that's why I'm a bit annoyed at the beginning of the story. Sam, as usuall, was the mature one and took care of Beck's place. I'm a bit surprised at the beginning, don't know why, but I was expecting something else after I finished Linger. Maybe that Grace would return sooner.
I'm not complaning, though. I never liked wolves before (not even with Taylor Lautner as one), but this series made me like them.

As I wrote from the beginning of this review, I'm really sad that it's all over.
But, I'm very glad that Stiefvater left the ending open. Free for you to decide. I recommend The Wolves Of Mercy Fall to everyone who wants some magic, romance and action.

My Thoughts:

Cleopatra's Moon was a very beautiful story. I loved it. Ms. Shecter's writing was amazing and I never wanted to put the book away. The world that the characters lived in was like magic and the reader was swept in it.

The characters in Cleopatra's Moon were all unique in their own way. Cleopatra Selene and her brothers, Ptolly and Alexandros, took care of each other and shared what they had. I liked their relationship and how they cooperated with others. Cleopatra VII was Selene's mother which I admired. She could rule Egypt and was always proud of her children.
There are many characters in this book, but to be honest, my favorite was Marcellus. He had some kind of "light" with him as a character and I enjoyed reading about how he would save Cleopatra.

Cleopatra's Moon also had many sad parts that you had to bite your lips and keep reading to find out more. There were many turns and loops in this story and that's what makes it unique.

The ending took me with big suprise. I did and didn't see that coming. Mostly, because I was busy wondering what will happen with Selene.
If there will be some kind of sequel to this story I will, with no doubt, read it and hopefully Ms. Shecter will write some more books.
